Nimbus 7 SBUV

Solar Backscatter Ultraviolet Instrument

Nimbus 7

SBUV (Version 6) Ozone Profile Data:

These files contain ozone profile data from the SBUV (Solar Backscatter Ultraviolet) instrument onboard the Nimbus 7 spacecraft. Data covering the entire Nimbus 7 SBUV lifetime, November 1, 1978 through June 21, 1990, are given as daily files of individual measurements, and as zonal means. All data are in ASCII format so they can be read on any platform. This is version 6 data - it has been corrected for calibration drift and should give accurate trends. (A version 7 processing will not be available for a year or more.)

IMPORTANT NOTE: the data after February 13, 1987 were affected by a chopper synchronization error. A correction has been applied and there is no apparent bias in this data, but the uncertainty of individual profiles is much higher!

Zonal Means of the profile data are also available.

It is best to get multiple days of data via ftp:

   ftp toms.gsfc.nasa.gov

   cd /pub/sbuv

Data from SBUV/2 instruments are also available from NOAA.
